C-Span Presidential Portraits
March 3 through April 30, 2008
American Presidents: Life Portraits, a presidential portrait exhibit presented by
C-SPAN and the White House Historical Association, will be on display at the
American Presidents Museum
March 3 through April 30, 2008
.
American Presidents: Life Portraits features the only complete collection of American presidential oil portraits by one artist.
Commissioned by C-SPAN, artist Chas Fagan painted the presidential portraits to complement C-SPAN’s Peabody Award-winning television series, American Presidents: Life Portraits. The public affairs network devoted 1999 to America’s chief executives, exploring the personal stories of the American presidents, from George Washington to George W. Bush.
Accompanying the Fagan portraits are biographical sketches of all 42 presidents, photographs contributed by the White House Historical Association that capture each president’s time in the White House, and historic front pages from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Each front page, beginning in 1876, dates back to the year the President was elected and offers context into the time-period in which the President served.
C-Span in the Classroom's American Presidents: Life Portraits Exhibit Activity!
Over a hundred years ago, a visitor presented a calling card to announce his or her arrival. Students can use "Calling Cards" in this activity to meet and get to know the presidents when they visit the exhibit.
The American Presidents: Life Portraits Exhibit Activity allows for individual and/or group involvement when visiting the traveling exhibit. Through this activity, teachers and parents can provide students with a variety of ways to learn about the presidents by analyzing portraits, images and biographical information.
