Little House on the Prairie
Laura Ingalls Wilder: The Journey of a Pioneer Family

Focusing on the life and writings of Laura Ingalls Wilder, a 16- panel display was at the American Presidents Museum June – July, 2008.  “Laura Ingalls Wilder:  The Journey of a Pioneer Family” was created a grant from the Missouri Humanities Council and has been traveling to libraries and schools throughout the state.  The panels contain photographs, documents and information  on Wilder, the books, and the Westward Expansion.

The Museum enhanced the panel exhibit with displays and artifacts that may have been found in pioneer life. Young visitors had have the opportunity to work the daily “chores” young Laura and Mary may have done and play a few games as well. They pulled period clothing from the big trunk and dressed for their step back in time. A complete activity program included Pioneer Home School Days.

Visitors had the opportunity to actually hear Laura, as an adult, in the only known recording, as she describes her life, and writing the Little House books.
