The American Presidents Museum welcomes field trips throughout the year.  It is our desire to have all of the students in SW Missouri visit our museum for a general tour, and to have the opportunity to return during special events and exhibits. 

 

Below, are some of the standards addressed within the museum and our educational programs.  Each tour opportunity will bring more of the various standards to the forefront of the program or activity.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

 

Communication Arts

 

CA2

The student will be able to read and evaluate fiction, poetry, and drama through original works such as “God Bless America”, the “Star Spangled Banner”, and “Pledge of Allegiance”. 

 

CA3

The Student will be able to read and evaluate non-fiction works including the Preamble to the Constitution; President Biographies including those of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson; and fifteen additional historical documents such as the Mayflower Compact and WWII Instruments of Surrender.

 

CA 5

The Student will be able comprehend and evaluate the reading content of numerous displays throughout the Museum on such subjects as The Early Immigrants Through Ellis Island; The Four Freedoms speech given by Franklin Roosevelt; and several video viewing opportunities including the History of the White House.

 

CA6

The student will participate in discussions and present their ideas and understanding through oral feedback to the Museum staff.

 

Social Studies

 

SS1

The Student will express their understanding and need for such documents as the Declaration of Independence, The U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights and the Emancipation Proclamation.  28 Documents of Freedom are on display within the museum.

 

SS2

The Student will explain the continuity of the state of Missouri as it relates to the History of the United States and the changes in global history through exploration of the Lewis and Clark exhibit and the impact of Thomas Jefferson’s presidency.

 

SS3

The Student will explain the their understanding of National, State and City governments their functions and basic procedures through the Oval Office exhibit, the branches of government displays, and special programs involving student elections.

 

SS5

The Student will view and interpret the major elements of the Lewis and Clark expedition through their geographic study and the changes it brought to the Nation.

 

SS6

The Student will explain the relationships developed and their importance to the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the Nation.

 

Fine Arts

 

FA1

The Student will gain an awareness of the processes and techniques in producing a visual static display, the importance of a moving display, and a psychomotor display.

 

FA2

The Student will gain an understanding of the principles and elements of Song, Poems, Biographies, and Visual arts through our Nation’s history.

 

FA5

The Student will comment on five the visual arts throughout the museum.

 

FA5

The Student will explain the role the performing arts had in shaping our nation’s history.

 

Science

 

SC8

The student will report on his theory of the impact of human activity on the environment and resources as we grew the nation via the westward expansion.

 

Health/Physical Science

 

HP2

The Student will review the changes in the health habits of Americans, as the Nation grew from the 1620’s to present, elaborating on the Colonial era, and the years of Immigration through Ellis Island.
