Museum Teams up with Boy Scouts
Merit Badge Universities
The National Center for Presidential Studies and American Presidents Museum will team up to offer Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation and Citizenship in the World merit badge programs to area Boy Scouts.
The programs will take the Scouts through the requirements as laid out in the merit badge requirement books put out by the Boys Scouts of America organization. Each of the badges requires study in Civics, American history, American Government, World Government, community involvement and what it means to be a good citizen. The programs are full-day activities and are scheduled for select Saturdays in September and October. The schedule is available on-line at www.americaspresidency.org.
Individual Scouts as well as entire Scout Troops are invited to participate. The programs will run from 9:00AM – to approximately 2:30PM with a mid-morning break that will include a snack and then a break for lunch.
“Scouting teaches boys the fundamentals of many necessary skills and attributes to help them on their way to becoming responsible adult members of society,” stated Stormy Lynn Snow, CEO and founder of the education center. “None are as important as the fundamentals of good citizenship.”
“One of the primary functions of our educational center is teaching American history, and instilling pride in our nation in all who come through our doors. Offering these merit badge programs are an excellent way for our center to reach out to the community, and to the Boy Scouts of America, and show what a wonderful resource we are,” continued Snow.
The planned programs will include several special visitors to aid in the various components required, role-playing, and various activities revolving around the requirements.
The Center has already conducted several Merit Badge Universities, and awarded nearly 150 Scouts their Citizenship in the Nation and 40 Scouts their Citizenship in the World merit badges.
Citizenship merit badges are required elements for Scouts desiring to earn the distinction of Eagle Scout. President Gerald Ford earned the rank Eagle Scout during his scouting years.
The cost for participation is $4 per Scout, and complimentary admission for leaders and group chaperones.
